Airbnb will significantly expand its Airbnb Experiences local tours and activities across 200 US cities.
The company said it is investing $5 million in expanding the service which currently numbers about 1,000 US experiences out of 4,000 globally.
It allows people to ‘earn extra income by showcasing their knowledge and talent with an audience of millions,’ Airbnb says.
Experiences are led by ‘small business owners, new entrepreneurs and community non-profits’ and the number of active experiences has grown 500% since the official launch of the service.
On a blog post announcing the expansion, Airbnb highlights the variety of Experiences from a podcast production lesson in Chicago, to honey making in the Santa Monica Mountains, and a LA bike tour with a landscape architect.
The service was launched in 2016 and is now in 50 locations globally.
