Committed to the San Francisco Bay and its watershed conservation, Statues of Ocean Pioneers created for Google on display at Aquarium of the Bay
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, – Aquarium of the Bay at Pier #39 welcomes the Ocean Pioneers- a sculptural series by the artist Viktor. Being installed today, the granite sculptures each weighing over 2,000 pounds, were inspired by his love for the ocean and intended to encourage younger generations to explore, love, and conserve the world’s oceans. Originally designed for Google to promote their Google Ocean product, the busts are on loan to the aquarium from DOER (Deep Ocean Exploration Research) Marine pioneer Dr. Sylvia Earle- National Geographic Explorer in Residence and former director of NOAA. “We are honored to be hosting the Ocean Pioneers at the aquarium. These impressive works of art will help us better connect our conservation message with aquarium guests. This unique experience will inspire guests to protect and conserve the San Francisco Bay watershed and other waterways throughout the world,” noted George Jacob, President and CEO of bay.org, the umbrella organization that runs Aquarium of the Bay and five other institutions. Installation of the exhibit began this morning and is now open to the public.
