TripAdvisor has launched it revamped website, which includes a tool to allow members to plan an entire trip on the site, receiving and sharing recommendations with friends and experts they trust online.
Manager of industry strategy and outreach Gavin Greene described the change as ‘hands down the most significant change made to TripAdvisor in years’.
The changes make it easier for travellers to connect with people, brands and influencers for travel and in-destination advice before and during their trip, he said.
“We’re very excited to be changing travel yet again,” said CEO Stephen Kaufer. “Just as you have your go-to site or app for music and shopping, we are making sure TripAdvisor is now your go-to resource for travel.”
Travellers can access videos, photos, articles and guides from friends and family on TripAdvisor, as well as from over a thousand brands, publishers and influencers including The Independent, National Geographic, Time Out and Culture Trip, whose content is being included on the site for the first time.
A new feature called ‘Trips’ enables travellers save and create lists or in-depth guides highlighting their favourite hotels, restaurants, experiences in a particular destination and sharing them with others.
Now, when members log in to TripAdvisor, their homepage will be turned into a personalised feed of information based on who they follow. When they search for a specific destination, their travel feed automatically showsrelevant content from the global TripAdvisor community, such as a food critic’s article on the best restaurant in the city, an influencer’s travel guide of must-do experiences, a friend’s review of a new hotel.
Members can click links to make restaurant reservations and to book hotels and excursions, but Greene said there no plans for travellers to be able to book an entire trip with one click.
Travellers can also follow their Facebook friends on TripAdvisor and see their ratings of hotels, restaurants and experiences.
Kaufer added, “This is just the beginning for TripAdvisor as we continue to work with the community to build the best experience for travellers worldwide. In the coming weeks, we will welcome more brands and influencers to the travel feed and will allow members to upload and share videos and articles.”
